The Fun Committee is Good for Business 

HealthStream Research™ has experienced (and continues to experience) phenomenal growth; we are industry leaders in client satisfaction; we are first-movers and disruptive innovators in technology and services.  So what’s our secret?  We have fun working here—we even have our own dedicated Fun Committee.

 One of our core values here at HealthStream Research is to have a workplace characterized by trust, friendship, and teamwork.  Out of this core value, the Fun Committee was born.  The Fun Committee’s task is to foster and create a fun working environment.   Why?  Happy employees having fun are more productive, more engaged, and far less likely to leave.  Fun is good business.

Studies have shown that having fun and being happy at work is linked to a range of different performance-related behaviors, including greater helping behavior, enhanced creativity, integrative thinking, inductive reasoning, more efficient decision-making, greater cooperation and the use of more successful negotiation strategies.  “The Fun Committee ensures that everybody has fun at work.  Without the Fun Committee, there would be far less communication between departments.  The Fun Committee makes sure there are activities for all the different departments to interact.  Not only is this ‘fun’ but it helps us all do our jobs better,” said our Fun Committee Chairperson. 

So far, we’ve had baking contests (does anybody want the winning blueberry contest recipes?), picnics, golfing, a “Guess Who” photo contest, Earth Day festivities, and a Baseball Day.  The Fun Committee has also fostered fun activities outside of the office.  This month several employees will be attending Trapeze school and another group is going on a weekend camping trip. The fun has been getting infectious.

Meanwhile, our client satisfaction scores continue to be the highest among market research firms; we’ve introduced new technologies, products, and services; our turnover is practically non-existent; we’re breaking records in productivity. . .
