History of HealthStream Research

Launched in March 2007, HealthStream Research was established by HealthStream, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSTM) on the complimentary strengths of two long standing and well respected market research companies: The Jackson Organization based in Baltimore, Maryland and Data Management & Research (DMR), based in Franklin, Tennessee.   DMR was acquired by HealthStream in 2005 and established the research business within HealthStream.  In 2007, The Jackson Organization was acquired by HealthStream and merged with DMR to launch HealthStream Research. HealthStream Research provides a unique combination of customized research and healthcare expertise to more than 1,100 healthcare facilities throughout the nation.

The combined history of patient, physician, employee and community research establishes HealthStream Research as one of the industry’s foremost benchmarking resources.

The Jackson Organization was exclusively dedicated to healthcare, with more than 200 employees dedicated to their mission:  To improve the way healthcare is delivered in America, one hospital, one system at a time.  The Jackson Organization was a nationally recognized healthcare survey research and strategy-development firm with offices located in Laurel, Maryland.  Founded in 1997, The Jackson Organization provided a full range of consulting and survey research (as well as qualitative research) across the entire healthcare spectrum—patients/HCAHPS, employees, medical staff, and consumers.

Data Management and Research, Inc. (DMR) was founded in 1990 and incorporated in 1992.  DMR developed a reputation for adapting its technology-driven and traditional data collection services to meet the unique needs of each client, while controlling the cost of their research and data management programs. DMR brought operational excellence, research sophistication, senior level consulting staff, and strength in physician and employee surveying as well as expertise in working with large hospital systems. DMR clients ranged from national healthcare systems and specialty segments to small rural hospitals in both the for-profit and not-for-profit healthcare sectors.
