Over the last 3 years, the response rate for HealthStream Research’s clients has averaged well above above 70%, though defining a specific response rate as ‘good’ would vary based on the size of your particular organization.

Response rate averages tend to fall as the organization gets larger.  For example, here are the average response rates for HealthStream Research’s clients, broken out by number of employees:

 

This is not to say that large organizations cannot achieve stellar response rates.  In fact, in every size category above, there are hospitals and systems that significantly outperform the national averages.  There are many factors that drive response rate:  organizational culture, patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, employee satisfaction, survey promotion, and method of survey distribution, just to name a few.
