Patient Insights – Best Practice on Staff Responsiveness
While patients are hospitalized they rely on us not only for medical care but often for more basic care that they would ordinarily be able to complete for themselves. This new reliance on others for these otherwise routine needs can be frustrating, and, when not readily met by hospital staff, can contribute to lower scores on the two Staff Responsiveness HCAHPS questions, the Overall Rating of the Hospital question and the Likelihood to Recommend question.

Two Pre-Summit Workshops Focused on Competency
- Establishing Performance Standards and Evaluating Outcomes
Description: The importance of staff who are strategically aligned is especially important in healthcare, with its significant training costs and potential patient life-or-death situations. Performance management is a tool to help managers find, foster, and retain people who are a "good fit." In this workshop, attendees will learn about how performance management can guide the three critical decisions all leaders must make and how managers are responsible for helping employees develop their potential.
- Beyond the Skills Check List – Outcomes-focused Competency Assessment
Description: Competency assessment is essential for ensuring patient safety, measuring employee engagement, and establishing accountability. Rather than falling into traps of measuring too many competencies or ineffectively measuring the same competencies year after year, this workshop provides Human Resources and Nursing leadership with an effective, new approach to thinking about competency assessment that is outcome-focused and accountability-based.
