HealthStream, Now HH-CAHPS Certified, Begins Data Collection

The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems Home Health Care Survey, (HH-CAHPS) is designed to measure the experiences of people receiving home health care from Medicare-certified agencies. HH-CAHPS will be conducted for Medicare-certified home health agencies by approved vendors. National implementation of HH-CAHPS has begun with agencies that wish to voluntarily participate in the survey. Agencies interested in participating in the national implementation will need to contract with an approved survey vendor to conduct the survey, which will occur on an ongoing basis, with data submitted data quarterly. HH-CAHPS results will be publicly reported on Home Health Compare once an agency has four quarters of data.

HealthStream Research has now completed all requirements to become a certified Home Health vendor. HealthStream Research successfully began Home Health data collection in October 2009. CMS is seeking hospitals to participate in modality testing. Please contact HealthStream Research at researchinfo@healthstream.com (or contact your Client Services Manager) if you are interested in participating in the modality testing.

Attend the Free Webinar, HH-CAHPS, Getting to Always, to learn more about how Home Health Agencies can leverage their HH-CAHPS data to inform improvement initiatives. Best practice approaches to understanding and improving patient perceptions of care will be shared and discussed.

Ask the Experts – HCAHPS

“We have heard some rumors that CMS may tie Value-Based Purchasing to individual HCAHPS theme scores, rather than the Overall Rating. Is this true? If so, what kind of impact do you think this will have?”

Improvement Tools

HealthStream Partners with OnFocus HealthCare to Launch the HealthStream Improvement Center

HealthStream Research has partnered with OnFocus Healthcare to introduce a new online tool to develop, communicate, and manage survey-based action plans, the HealthStream Improvement Center. This tool will provide a framework for taking action to address issues revealed through survey insight, establishing accountability for specific actions and monitoring progress toward targeted improvement. Like all of our products and services, this solution is designed to meet the complex challenges of large health systems. While competitive products may facilitate plan management for a single facility, our solution offers advanced capabilities necessary for actually managing plan performance throughout a system. A few key features include:
  1. Define Goals, Critical Success Factors and Action Steps at the corporate, hospital, and department levels. Customers may leverage best practices from HealthStream Research consulting in populating the plans action steps.
  2. Select survey scores as Key Performance Indicators (KPI) used to monitor progress toward improvement goals.
  3. Enterprise-wide plan management and progress reporting by establishing common goals to adopt by related divisions, hospitals or departments.
  4. Assign leaders to Goals, Critical Success Factors, and Action Steps for clear accountability.
  5. Plan scoring by participants provides owners with progress tracking.
  6. Notifications and alerts for past due items.
  7. Single user interface for all survey-based plans (physician, employee, HCAHPS, etc.).

HealthStream LIVE! Webinar – HCAHPS Best Practices Based on our Research

Date: Tuesday, December 15th at 2:00pm CST/3:00pm EST

Presented by Nancy Hudecek, RN, BSN, MS
Director, Risk Management & Patient Safety
HealthStream, Inc.

Overview
As of January 2009, results of the HCAHPS inpatient survey are being publicly reported by CMS on behalf of more than 3,700 hospitals. Throughout this year, hospitals have been assessing their own performance on the HCAHPS survey and comparing their results not only to their local competitors but also to state and national benchmarks. During this same time, HealthStream Research has been working closely with its hospital clients to educate clients on the HCAHPS program and work with them to develop action plans for improvement of their survey results.

The purpose of this webinar is to share what we have learned this year about HCAHPS based on our recent consulting experiences. The goal is to help hospital leaders better understand the full ramifications of the HCAHPS program and present ideas that may be helpful to their improvement plans.
